Knowing yourself. Seems simple right? It is. (kind of…)
From Aristotle to The Oracle from the Matrix movies (go with us here..) and all those before, after and in-between, words have been shared by many about knowing yourself. Oh, and if you haven’t seen The Matrix, please do so we don’t feel old. And if you don’t know who Aristotle is, we can’t help you, you need to look him up because he was wicked smart. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristotle
Whether you have heard of him or not, Aristotle had some words of wisdom over 2300 years ago when he said “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Okay, so there is some debate about whether it was him or Socrates who said this, but that’s neither here nor there. The point is, if you know who you are in your core fundamentally, all other things you learn connect to each other (or “bridge” together) bul and also, knowing what you don’t know. That last part is for another discussion because that is from Confucious...Okay, back to Aristotle..
This is our opinion, but we feel it ties well into the understanding your purpose. The recognition of your own self, who you are and the biggest part of that is using your knowledge for purpose. In our experience we have come across a lot of people who have amazing strengths and yet they are not using their strengths to the greatest ability, or they don’t know how to articulate who they are and so on.
There’s a lot of unpack here. So let’s start with this. If you were to summarize who you ARE (NOT what you want to BE) but who you are in your core, what would you say? We will give you a moment..or two..or three. Are you trying to figure out what to say? That’s okay! You should be pondering this because it’s that profound and don’t have all the words yet. Hold your thoughts, grab some pen and paper (showing our age again?) grab your phone or laptop and take some notes. You got this.
